The hospital first opened its doors in 1904 in Norwich, Connecticut. It was built in an idyllic location chosen for its therapeutic properties overlooking the River Thames.
The Norwich Insane Asylum was built isolated from civilization, which worked to its benefit as it began to grow during its early years sprouting new buildings that accompanied the original construction (see aerial view of the hospital here). These new construction projects included patient wards, staff cottages, laboratories and workshops. All of the structures were interconnected by a large network of underground utility tunnels. These tunnels transported electricity, hot water, and patients to various areas on the grounds. The hospital remained self-sufficient, almost like a small town, with its own power plant, pump house, working farm, kitchen, theater and church.
Over 3,000 patients and 1,000 employees were residents on the asylum grounds in the 1950’s.
Slowly patients began to leave Norwich State Hospital due to deinstitutionalization and it permanently closed its doors in 1996. Since then time has basically stood still on the property with a few exceptions. Currently there is talk about converting the grounds into a theme park, but nothing has been set in stone.
After a long tedious drive we leave the car in a commuter parking lot close to the buildings. Ever the vigilant group of explorers we notice a State Trooper making his rounds and dive into the forest for cover. Luckily we outsmarted the police yet again and after regrouping walk along the Thames River for a few hundred feet. We finally see the abandoned pump house looming in the distance and decide to make this our entryway into the campus.
This site has a reputation for being well guarded, well patrolled, and does not take kindly to trespassers. I am always on edge when exploring across the Atlantic and the numerous “State Property – No Trespassing” signs that litter the grounds did not bode well for my paranoia. Instead of exposing ourselves above ground to security and prying eyes, we decided to take the underground route through the utility tunnels.
Using the tunnels we explored many buildings without ever being forced to go outside. This method of travel was soon confirmed to be the safest. On our first attempt to venture outside we were only a few feet away from a security officer in a black uniform. Fortunately he didn’t look our way and we quickly receded back into the tunnel network. For a while we hid in the abandoned theater so we could look around the campus without being seen.
This encounter with security dampened our spirits and made our visit a whole lot shorter than we would have liked. We made our grande exit through the empty chapel, this allowed us to avoid walking back through the forest. As we were walking back to the commuter lot to pickup our car we noticed the State Trooper had been watching us as we suspiciously walked down the road. I wonder where we went to and were coming back from?!

this girl is an escaped mental patient and is very unstable and dangerous! She is known to cruise websites looking for victims she is very smart and a master manipulator she will be sweet and sexy one minute and claw your guts out the next! I have faced her twice and I twisted my knee and ankle when I tried to run. took nasty spill too...while Sparkles laughed at me I got away...It was odd... she was gonna hurt me but I was helpless against her charms...I loved it realy...and her.
Soooo, has anyone seen titicut follies? I asked the other day but no one cared. It's a doc about bridgewater in ma. from 1967-I think-Some of it looks alot like nori, interiors anyway, it's interesting to see it in action and get an idea of how these places were/ still are I guess. As far as this whole BombDiggityDouchebagery is concerned..From prior convo's with other regulars here..I gathered that Bomb is exactly what i thought. Obviously now..that we have a paramedic's point of view on burns of the hands and face..And shining some light on the fact that you wouldn't only be not typing..but defiantly not exploring any type of abandonment what-so-ever..I have brought the conclusion to my head that by BomB posting on other user names claiming he was dead and yadayada..he is simply looking for sympathy..friendship by the people that he feels he should belong with. Sadly however BomB..I have been a user here for over a year..in that time..YOU have made many claims and ruined many people's views of what it is that urban exploration is all about. Talking with others about you I have dug up the fact that you are apparently a fan of tagging and vandalizing sites. Places normal people would go to document and investigate have been ruined by YOU..and your "friends"..this is not a hobby for you..and you shouldn't own a computer..You claim to have been to many places..why dwell here..there are plenty of other message boards ..with a whole new group of people that you can fool. good-luck.
Sparkles is right..the time frame from this article defiantly does not match up with the Famous Jack the Ripper cases..However..I just find it interesting that a writer would dub this guy as "Jack the ripper" I mean..how can you compare any one killer..to another. I don't believe the two rippers are related in any way..I was just curious if anyone had ever heard of someone being dubbed as Jack the Ripper in our area..and at our favorite asylum.
Once I get home and away from the workplace internet restrictions, I'll dig some more.

My dad said his 3rd degree burn looked like a baked potato. Anyways, I totally agree about the whole let's ignore bomb thing. Only just to let everyone know he will talk crap and say he'll never leave just like JPT said. Whatever. But he'll post under a bunch of different names. Ignore them all. And there was not enough sun to get 2nd degree burns. Unless bomb's visiting the tanning salon on a daily basis. if that's the case then you'll look like Malibu barbie in no time. There was recently a program on (I believe) The History Channel about Jack the Ripper in Ct. I didn't watch it so I can't provide any details but I will see if I can find a link with more info.
1st degree burns minor skin irritations, are basicaly sunburns. 2nd degree burns are more serious, they involve some blistering of the skin, moderate skin damge, but no significant tissue damage. 3rd degree are where the tissue is basically cooked or charred.
To go about claiming to have 1st degree burns to your face is pretty common, I believe we all get that at one time or another. I myself had some this weekend working outside. But I didnt see where it was significant enough to mention it on a forum. If indeed you had second degree burns on your hands, as mentioned below you would be having problems typing if it were on the portion of the hand used for typing.
I suspect you have some sunburn type burn on your face, with the only major effect being perhaps you'll peel, and some minor area of 2nd degree burns on the back of your hands. I have also seen 2nd degree burns as a result of sun.
So , once we get past the drama drama drama, and the pathetic attempts to garner sympathy or perhaps some incredibly juvenile "Phantom of the Opera" delusion, we have a guy that got some minor burns and wants everybody to know about it.

It's defiantly a local paper..There are articles in the paper with our local towns there..Branford..Groton..Etc.Etc.. I don't understand completely why there would be an article there stating that Jack the Ripper ..of all legendary serial killers would have been housed at NSH..I don't know a whole lot about Jack the Ripper..but I do know he is famous in London..not New London..this paper throws me off quite a bit. I think it would be rude for another insane serial killer to just..Take someone's alias.

I know a gentleman who was burned in a bonfire, his hands and part of his back. He was in hospital for several weeks.- I agree, there is no way anyone would be out in a few days, so whomever this is posting, and I dont know nor do I really care, is either a rather poor liar, or needs to share what he's been drinking with the rest of us. I hope its the latter, but fear its the former.
