Norwich-State-Hospital
The hospital first opened its doors in 1904 in Norwich, Connecticut. It was built in an idyllic location chosen for its therapeutic properties overlooking the River Thames.
The Norwich Insane Asylum was built isolated from civilization, which worked to its benefit as it began to grow during its early years sprouting new buildings that accompanied the original construction (see aerial view of the hospital here). These new construction projects included patient wards, staff cottages, laboratories and workshops. All of the structures were interconnected by a large network of underground utility tunnels. These tunnels transported electricity, hot water, and patients to various areas on the grounds. The hospital remained self-sufficient, almost like a small town, with its own power plant, pump house, working farm, kitchen, theater and church.
Over 3,000 patients and 1,000 employees were residents on the asylum grounds in the 1950’s.
Slowly patients began to leave Norwich State Hospital due to deinstitutionalization and it permanently closed its doors in 1996. Since then time has basically stood still on the property with a few exceptions. Currently there is talk about converting the grounds into a theme park, but nothing has been set in stone.
After a long tedious drive we leave the car in a commuter parking lot close to the buildings. Ever the vigilant group of explorers we notice a State Trooper making his rounds and dive into the forest for cover. Luckily we outsmarted the police yet again and after regrouping walk along the Thames River for a few hundred feet. We finally see the abandoned pump house looming in the distance and decide to make this our entryway into the campus.
This site has a reputation for being well guarded, well patrolled, and does not take kindly to trespassers. I am always on edge when exploring across the Atlantic and the numerous “State Property – No Trespassing” signs that litter the grounds did not bode well for my paranoia. Instead of exposing ourselves above ground to security and prying eyes, we decided to take the underground route through the utility tunnels.
Using the tunnels we explored many buildings without ever being forced to go outside. This method of travel was soon confirmed to be the safest. On our first attempt to venture outside we were only a few feet away from a security officer in a black uniform. Fortunately he didn’t look our way and we quickly receded back into the tunnel network. For a while we hid in the abandoned theater so we could look around the campus without being seen.
This encounter with security dampened our spirits and made our visit a whole lot shorter than we would have liked. We made our grande exit through the empty chapel, this allowed us to avoid walking back through the forest. As we were walking back to the commuter lot to pickup our car we noticed the State Trooper had been watching us as we suspiciously walked down the road. I wonder where we went to and were coming back from?!

Actually look it up...thats exactly why Seaside was used for TB treatment facility. perhaps sea air has no medical use...duh! but it was a pleasant location and conditions for TB recovery. these are the facts as we know them. further updates as events warrant.
is sparkles a chick???
At one time, Seaside may have had sea air which may or may not have been good for TB patients, but now a days its the river full of Norwich junk and the "tink tink tink" of slot machine payouts across the river! (Yes, i know they use paper instead of quarters now, but the noise is still there, to enice the dim-witted into lose their money.)
I don't think there is actually any proof that sea air is good for treating TB.....
any word on when an if taps is coming to nsh
OR............ seaside was built there because it was a treament center for TB patients...the sea air is good for TB recovery... maybe we just stick to facts?
Ummm... Might be intriguing if I was watching the syfy channel....
crazy i may be lol but you gotta admit my theorys are interesting to read. ok so here i got one for seaside:
now everyone knows seaside is right on the water, the rason for this is when the place was open in the middle of the night they would bring all the people they did tests on from norwich state hospital government underground labratorys. and they attempted to nurse these people back to health and wipe their memory so they would forget about anything that happened to them while at nsh. or they were implanted with little chips in their heads to record and wirelessy transmit their actions to see if they could survive in society with all the new add ons they put into their bodys. kinda like bionic man. with added stuff. and if they couldnt get their bodys back into working condition after all those tests that were performed, they had a boat drive up on shore, take their bodys 5 miles off shore and dumped them with weights tied to their feet, but they didnt wrap them in anything so the marine life would slowly feed off their bodys to dispose of the evidence. they also injected the bones with a substance that rubberizes them so when salt water touches the bones they disinigrate leaving no trail behind. they still do this process today but they no longer do it at seaside they do this in the surrounding houses so just incase they have a huge inflow of test patients they can just reopen seaside.
ok guys thats the latest and greatest let me know what you think....
Maybe NHS was infused with chemicals and/or low level radiation, to see what effect a long term "osmosis" like treatment would have? And that's why its been sitting vacant , as the Feds are waiting for the residuals to dissapate?
It was actually a zombie experimentation facility.
Can you say "Alien Autopsy"? That bomber (no relation to Bomb) that crashed in preston way back in WWII era, was really a UFO!
A political concetration camp.
"...and the driver would say 'thats where lunatics stay', I wonder if he's talkin' bout us? Good ol' boys and girls, contemplatin' waitin' in another world With rollercoaster brains! Imagine playing with trains. We're all cra-zy, we're all cra-zy, we're all cra-zy...." A. Cooper, "We're All Crazy", From the Inside.
And somebody has got to want a cat... My goal is to adopt them all out. lol
Why don't you start by reading some books that already exist.... You'll get some ideas from them.
2 dogs, a rabbit and a bird. Thats enuff here. Rabbits quiet, but the bird is a sun conure, noisiest bird on the planet! Little parrot, and when he wants attention, you can hear him a mile away! Phone conversations are interesting "Do you have a bird? I think I hear one in the background." NO, thats the Venuzualian jungle rabbit, they learn to mimic birds. You must have seen it on Animal Planet last week." Heres your sign.
Seaside: probably 40 years back, my Dad taught a first aid/CPR course there to some of the staff. I went with him a couple times. To a youngster, it was quite intimidating. He sent me up to an office for something, and I was afraid they would think I was one of the residents and lock me up! He had me take some of my fake blood one day and put it under my hair and when one of the students started asking me what "that was" , Dad said, without missing a beat, "Treat it". then went back to the lesson. It was a basement room, thats all I remember. Institutional feel, no surprise there.
lol i hear you guys on that one, my first guess would be bomb. i would take the cat but im not good with kats i love them but at the same instance sometimes they can be increadibly annoying. especially when you are trying to sleep. so im trying to think up a good theory for seaside, cant wait to post this one. lol. i feel like a struggleing writer just waiting for the next inspiration. lol maybe i will actually write a crazy fiction story about both hospitals. now that would be kinda cool. anyone got any good ideas i can twist and make into a kick ass conspiracy theory about seaside? lol
At least the snow is pretty! And honestly, I wouldn't have minded if we had a huge blizzard. We would have had today and tomorrow off. (I was here at 5:30 yesterday morning and no sleep is kicking my ass) Damn, they must keep you pretty busy. My friend has two girls, 3 and 6, and I have trouble keeping up with them. And everyone feels old at least once in a while. I feel old half the time, and people look at me like I'm insane when I say I'm getting old... It is almost like they're the same person...... hmm
Hey, does anyone want to adopt a cat?
When I retire, I'm moving to the V.I.s! Grenada, or Dominica. I like Grenada better, because of all the spices, but dominica has a lot of fresh fruits up in the reainforest! Spkls- 3 kids, ages 2, 5 and 7. They say they keep you young. May be, but sure make me FEEL old!
Looks like the Dawg is being quiet lately. Probably got in with Bomb! So much in common, scarey, almost like they were the same person! Its amazing!
It was before 96
that is really weird, i dont think ive ever heard of that, lol maybe it was one of the inmates they let go back in 96 and the dude just now finally snapped. lol
