Welcome to the Hudson River State Hospital located in the United States in Poughkeepsie, New York. This gigantic hospital has overlooked the Hudson River for 136 years since its initial construction in 1871. The various hospital buildings were constructed and belong to the famous Kirkbride architectural order (read more on this excellent website).
The hospital was divided into two wings, for male and female patients, with an administration section located in the center. The male wing was much larger than the respective female wing. This was caused by the number of patients being unequal between the sexes (see the sky view from the hospital using the link above).
The beauty of the decay was unbelievable in this hospital. Most of the original constructions had been preserved.
Future renovation construction of the hospital were planned long ago. A fire, caused by lightning, burned the male wing in June 2007. As of the date of this article, the fate of Hudson Psyche Center remains unknown.
Hopefully this awesome Kirkbride will be saved. The United States is certainly not Europe and listing historical buildings as monuments might not be enough to protect them…

Hay HVPC DIscoverys, All i have learned has came from the head of ground that worked there for 50 years. There Is one big secret building I cant say if it is underground or above but it is a military building 100% in use!!!!!! THEY HAVE KEEP IT QUIET FROM DAY ONE....HERVEY SURETY... THE GUY TOLD ME HE WAS THE ONLY ONE TO GO THERE THAT WAS NOT MILITARY AND HE HAD SOMEONE WITH HIM EVERY STEP!!!! CRAZY SHIT.... but anyway It is a maintenance tunnel and they did not do anything with the patients down there maybe transport once in a wile , The only thing i can say Is the Main Entrance to the tunnel's, It is OPEN and does not get use much Because people Don't think it is one of the cool buildings and is off the beaten path lol I Like to see it all.
I go over at least once a week, well i went for a recon to see how the construction is going. Still going on, looks like they are about to rap it up. I have the best way in and out......TO THE BACK OF THE MORGUE, I have a few older videos up on youtube from 2 months ago. I will not go around there the week of Halloween THE COPS ARE BAD and the campus PO have the same authority the cops do within 3 miles of the campus. Everything has been blocked by welded steal but there are still many ways in on the side with ladders. also the entrance 2 the tunnel is in the ryon building downstairs then take a left in the big hallway walk like 20 feet and take a left. At the moment it welded closed. Post if you get it open!
Me and some frends visited went on the top roof and I guess some one stole or took off the big ac vents .. Any ways saw SHOOK all over the place "as usual" ... Can someone pleas get back to me tell me a good way to get in it's locked up pretty well ... Btw the police are watching this place now probley cause the construction goods are geting stolen... Well that's all btw I hear they are are gunna take it down I hope they don't.. Well ya get back to me on the ways in...
Hey Jim, do you remember the bowling alley on 9 and Albany Post Rd. I think it may be where Mikes Auto Center is now. When I was in Hillcrest School For Children, we would sneak up the hill, turn right on 9 and walk a couple of blocks to the bowling alley to buy cigarettes. I think it would be easy to get in that way if someone wanted to explore. If you wear a hard hat and work boots, no one would even give you a second glance.

My father was the head cook at Ryan Hall. It primarily housed folks from Dutchess County. He worked there from the time he got back from WW2 until he passed away in 1972. Used to take me there when I was a kid. I remember the whole site very well and used to take the short cut through the grounds to get from RT 9 to RT 9G when I went to college. It was a scary place for a youngster at times. Still remember the smell of the big institutional kitchen where dad worked.
found out that my grandmothers sister was put up their in the 50s in the Cheney building.Reason for her stay which my aunt recently told me about was that she liked to sleep around and her parents thought she had a problem so off she went for many years.I can remember going up their visiting her with my mom in the mid 70s when i was about 8 years old .When i use to go and visit my grand parents on weekends when i was older she would be their just sitting in the chair asking anyone who was at the house for a dollar . I can remember her just repeating it over and over got a dollar, got a dollar that was some freaky stuff seeing that as a kid .I always wondered what happened with her and now i know.Just a prime example of some one that wasnt crazy and being put in the psych center and the stuff they did back then in them places like shock therapy etc. became crazy .Im sure that happened to many people back then , just put them away and let them stay and look what happened.
I wonder why they suddenly decided to crack down on this place so hard...
I was there a little more than a week ago all of the openings are being covered the tunnel entrance from kirkbride has been closed up and coverd with miscellaneous steel pieces and all of the windows with mesh screens have been replaces with hardwire screens and metal parts have been put up over every window opening making it harder to get in if your skinny you can still squeeze in and there are still openings around in hidden places some are unknown still but if you want to go i recommend going now AT NIGHT! daytime is too risky there are people working on it in the daytime now you can tell because there are huge machines everywhere and the gates are open during the day for the trucks to get in but if you wanna go yet again go at night this place is being shut down tight theres almost no way to get in which sucks if your there to walk around then your good but the one room that hasnt been covered yet is the morgue hope this helps

Was just around there last week. Two men pulled up in a white pick up truck. One person got out and stated he was the owner and we were on private property. Luckily we were not arrested. Security is tight up there now. Disappointing as we've never been inside.

If you see pipe stealers or scrappers best bet is to rat em out! All they do is destroy the place and ruin it for everyone else. Not to mention the noise they make attracts uneeded attention to others in the vicinity. Do as you will but make sure you have a mask on to suck up all the asbestos they realease as they rip off pipes. My most recent expedition we ran into them below us in a building and could not call the cops for two hours until they left, alot of good it did then since we would have busted ourselves calling any earlier.

Went there today for my first venture into the tunnels. There was a white truck on patrol, but it was easy enough to get around. Met some scrappers too, they seemed chill but I didn't dare ask about it cause they had box cutters. I just left em alone. Props to whoever painted the arrows, they really help.
I can just bet you that they are putting in new fire hydrants and what not due to all the fire/arson that keeps hitting the place.
Went back last week for a while,theres tons of construction vehicles putting in new fire hydrants and water pipes,it looks like theyre redoing them all so they might be there for a while. On the way out the back we had to run from a K9 sheriff ,hit the woods and made it out fine althogh he did stay around for a few minutes with his searchlight on. Hey guys!! went back last night had a great time,got into a few new buildings but i noticed construction on the grounds as well. I also noticed just about everywhere i looked i saw the graffiti of "SHOOK" on the ground,on the doors,deep in tunnels,even on the roof where i have noooo idea how he got there!! for the most part it was pretty good,wish i knew who it was since everytime i go back he has more pieces around. Anyone else seen his work?? Oh,i have heard from my friends that theres 2 cops parked outside the rear and front enterance,who knows who they hjave inside but definalty watch out for the construction workers
That doesn't make sense. There is so much red tape and stuff around this place that plans like that couldn't come to fruition without taking lots of time. I tried contacting the property owners and the email address on their site doesn't even exist. There has been no news from them since 2006.
some of my friends just got caught by the blue jeep, Its a off duty cop, He is not to bad he just took some names and that was that. BUT HE TOLD THEM, THEY ARE ABOUT TO TARE IT ALL DOWN TO PUT UP A DUMB ASS WALLMART!!!!!!!!!! WTF WE HAVE TO STOP THIS. IN THE OLD POWER PLANT THEIR IS FEET OF OLD MOTOR OIL GOING INTO THE GROUND LETS CALL THE DEC.
They are doing that but now people are stealing supplies so there are police driving around 24/7 and they are looking for people I advise you to stay keep you flashlights low don't aim them high and well don't use them if not needed try to stay quiet well have fun ... And run when you see lights and btw the cops have big ass search lights so remember just cause ur in the dark they can use that to find ur a** so watch your self people but have fun ...
As of 7/13 Maintenance crews are on site repairing/replacing local water mains so expect a constant stream of activity throughout the work week. They're not looking for you however so stay out of sight and all should be well.
it was about 4pm. I think he was going to start to make some rounds. I don't think he is a cop, I think he is a care taker or just looks over the grounds. one day i will go talk to him, The thing is "i don't want him to see me until the time is right". SO MANNY ASSH***'S MESS THE PLACE UP THEY JUST ASSUME EVERYONE IS IN THERE TO DESTROY THE PLACE OR STEAL THINGS. I want to see if I can donate my time on the grounds. The damage needs to stop if we wanna keep this place, they will just rip it down if it is to far gone. So until then they don't know but i am putting time in. Did you see the truck during the day or at night? Maybe it was one of the cops who works up there. They don't really seem to bother you unless your destroying shit.
