Welcome to the Hudson River State Hospital located in the United States in Poughkeepsie, New York. This gigantic hospital has overlooked the Hudson River for 136 years since its initial construction in 1871. The various hospital buildings were constructed and belong to the famous Kirkbride architectural order (read more on this excellent website).
The hospital was divided into two wings, for male and female patients, with an administration section located in the center. The male wing was much larger than the respective female wing. This was caused by the number of patients being unequal between the sexes (see the sky view from the hospital using the link above).
The beauty of the decay was unbelievable in this hospital. Most of the original constructions had been preserved.
Future renovation construction of the hospital were planned long ago. A fire, caused by lightning, burned the male wing in June 2007. As of the date of this article, the fate of Hudson Psyche Center remains unknown.
Hopefully this awesome Kirkbride will be saved. The United States is certainly not Europe and listing historical buildings as monuments might not be enough to protect them…

Hey, I think there was a cemetery, when they started expanding and building new buildings up on the hill they unearthed some bodies from the old cemetery, I don't know what they did with the bodies but they built on the land over the cemetery.
To all that rely know about this place!!!!! Can someone help me Why is there no cemetery???? Did they cremate all that died?? I was just thinking every place like this has a cemetery except this on????????????
Really alnert, you heard that nothing wardy says is true? and where did you hear that from? Yeah, that's what I thought! Maybe you just have a hard time believing there are still good guys out there, but there are, and wardy is a prime example!

I did construction up there not too long ago maybe a month or two ago. Everywhere i look i see graffiti the same stuff might i add SHOOK. all over my machines,every buillding,rooftops. anyone know the significants of this SHOOK or who he is?? a few griends of mine who explored the place say its in almost every building as well.

I've scoured the Internet and I've learned much about the history and stuff. I've seen some maps but nothing helpful in identifying buildings and tunnel entrances. I even bought that book "Turning 15 in the Loony Bin". It sounds pathetic but I want to know everything and i want all I can get, darn it, every time I go I try to get into the female ward and the building, I think I'm so afraid of getting caught that I don't always see the entrances. It takes me an hour to get up there and even still, I go late at night because it's easier to hide. I've only been in the Cheney building and if I go up again I want to make the best of the trip and see it all. I wish I lived closer... Sigh
If you look on the Internet There are tuns of places on the web with the history and pics from day one... WITH MAPS!!!! I WILL NOT TELL WHERE THE HOT SPOTS ARE... FOR ONE REASON THIS PLACE IS GETTING FU@#*D UP!!! not due to time!! just take pics and videos and do you ghost thing. If you can show me some good pics or videos, we can meet i will show you some things!!! I AM going soon i will have videos of 3 places, I CAN BET nobody has been into wreck things and if they have it was a long time ago!!!! one is still in use..... if you want to have a good time find out the crazy history of this place first you will have the big piture of The Hudson River Psychiatric Center and then you will be able to see it all it is just to big..
Is there a tunnel entrance open to the grounds? I've walked all over the place and all I've found so far was a hole in the ground for a tunnel you cannot stand up in.
ok so when i went there with some frens, we walked on the highway until no cars came then ran in and hid behind that shed thingy. if you look inside it theres this red light blinking and you can make out a sort of device thats prolly a security unit maybe even with someone there... so when i went inside we went thru the cheney building as i learned, and word, some car came later on with lights watching the place and later on came around on patroll and later when we left there was this suv parked in the front i was like wtf. word but cool place tho. if only someone could make a map of the buildings and where things are at. lmao but on the rooftop there is othing like the view!!! you just have to maneuver thru that hole in the cage thingy. wow, but all those rooms were really interesting. sadly i only got to see the basement, the first floor and the rooftop.
I go over once or twice a week and know of a few others like that. As for the cameras!!! I think that was bullshit, so that you would come to some place like this!! to brag, so they could try to slow people down. As many times as i have been there I have only seen someone patrolling once. AND I GO UP FOR FULL DAYS AT A TIME, You can see where they drive. I am not saying it is not being patrolled, Just not as much as people talk. O and by the way there are so many ways in this place!! WITHOUT BREAKING IN! I HAVE OVER 6 WAYS IN THE TUNNELS. I haven't been here on the grounds in almost a year and the last few times we went, the cops were stalking us all over the place. It was aggravating, they were so busy watching us, a group of 20 kids went in and were breaking stuff, and carrying on, I think they got busted. I've only been inside the Cheney building and didn't find the entrance to the tunnels. I could not find a way into the old main building, which was a huge disappointment. Security came driving through only once, but never late at night, not that I've seen, any who, reading about people getting arrested and charged put me off of the place for the summer, better to go after a big snow.
I don't know about any cameras, just the same as motion trackers, they say that stuff to scare people, I doubt there are any real cameras.
I went IN October and went inside threw a ground level window didn't know there were cameras or so the "owner" said as my friend and I were walking out and back to where we parked at home depot this guy came speeding up and said he saw us on camera and had the cops on the way...lol we talked our way out of it but later thought about it and anyone could have been in there kinda stupid for two girls with no weapons walking around a huuuuge abandoned hospital....coulda been crackheads squatters ECT...on the way out when we were looking for the same window we came in we heard a bunch of noise down the hallway "/ scary stuff....i'd go back LOL

I was looking through the pics from when i went over Halloween. I saw A Crazy mist in one pic. the lens was not dirty i have Manny pics seconds before and seconds after and nothing!!!!!!!! I went for my B-day 11-11-11 in the Main kirk building WOW Lots of doors slamming and talking that sounds like it is so far away O and just all kinds of noises I THINK 80% OF IT WAS WIND.
